Egyptian court adjourns Morsi's espionage verdict

An Egyptian court has adjourned the verdict of the trial of ex-Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi to May 7.

Some sources indicate that the verdict has been adjourned to give room for more deliberations while others say the case has been adjourned to avoid another wave of condemnation from the international community as fear looms over a planned protest on the April 25.

64-year-old Morsi had been sentenced to life in jail last year after he was found guilty of espionage.

He was also sentenced to death over a mass jail break incident in 2011 which happened as a popular uprising led to the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak.

Supporters of the ousted leader and the Muslim Brotherhood movement have faced a crackdown since Morsi was overthrown in 2013.
